THE POLLS ARE OPEN - Cast YOUR vote!

Too soon?  Yeah, probably too soon ...

Anyway - we've received some great suggestions for team names and have opened a poll (look to the left.)

The poll will remain open through the weekend - make sure to cast your vote!

Thanks to everyone who submitted their player information.  It's tremendously helpful for Coach to have this information and I appreciate the time you took to answer the questions and consider the volunteer opportunities.  We're still waiting for a couple more player responses to round out the team and then will begin the process of nominating assistant coaches.

Our kick-off pre-season meeting will be scheduled for the second week of December - stay tuned for specific date and time.

Warmest Thanksgiving wishes from our baseball diamond to yours ...

That form I mentioned ...

Hello, Pubbers and Grillers!  (That name might be growing on me a bit ...)

A poll is up to name the team, as more suggestions come in, the list will grow.  Even though you sent your suggestions, please, please, PLEASE select your faves in the poll on this page.

The form I mentioned in my email can be found HERE.  Take a few moments to fill it out and submit it.  It'll help me get to know you a little bit better.

Welcome Teddy G's Pubbers and Grillers

Congratulations Teddy G’s Pubbers and Grillers and welcome to the 2017 SLL Major Division Baseball!

Wait … what?  That can’t be right …

Congratulations Teddy G’s  [ FILL IN THE BLANK ]_ !!!

Okay – we need a name.  Let’s start there …

I’m charging all of you to come up with this year’s team name.  It’s YOUR team and you should have a say.  We can choose from MiLB and MLB team names – so do a little bit of research and submit your top three choices no later than Wednesday, November 16th.

Now, onto business …

TO THE PLAYERS -
I would like to first congratulate you on all the hard work and effort that has brought you to the Major Division of SLL for the 2017 Season.  Whether you’re new to this level of play, are returning to this division from last year, or retiring at the end of this season, I am pretty proud to have you all be part of this team – my last SLL team – and you should all know that I selected each one of your because of your determination, team spirit, and character.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been a team coach and manager for 10 seasons and an SLL board member in various roles over the years as well.  I am passionate about this game, no doubt, but I am even more passionate about what you will get out of this season.  My goal, as your manager, is to help you learn something new, develop and refine your skills, understand what it means to be on a team and to have some fun along the way.  It is a game, after all …

TO THE PARENTS –
I like to kick-off the pre-season with an overview of expectations and opportunities for you to get involved.

Coaching Staff  - The coaching staff consists of four volunteers.

The Manager (me) – I am responsible for drafting the team (done!), planning practices, developing and executing game strategy, and player/team development.  I will be your source of information on team-related activities and will communicate with you regularly.  Think of me as the captain of this ship and you, my capable crew.  Any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns should be sent directly to me.

Coaches – the team has three assistant coaches.  Each has a specific responsibility within the team framework and I am looking for volunteers to fill these roles.
The Team Coach is second in command and will take on the responsibilities of the manager should I not be available for any reason.
The Bench Coach maintains order in the dugout and with equipment.  The Bench Coach may also be asked to “keep the book.”
The Field Coach prepares the field before practice/play and closes the field at the conclusion.

This year, I am looking for Practice Coaches – moms, dads, siblings, etc … who would like to be involved but cannot commit to or are not selected as one of the three coaches outlined above.  Practices are more productive, effective, and efficient when we have more volunteers participate.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES/REQUIREMENTS
Concessions – this always seems to be the trickiest role to fill.  SLL has adopted the practice that the home team will staff the concession stand for the duration of the game.  If we do not have a volunteer, the game will not start.  If there is too long of a delay to start the game, we will have to forfeit.  We will have approximately eight home games to staff concessions.  As soon as the schedule is released I will be asking for commitments.

Social Media – in the past “we” have had a team blog.  Weekly updates, photos, and announcements have been posted on the blog to keep people informed and connected.

Field Helpers – we need some green thumbs to help the Field Coach with field duties, at the field.

NEXT STEPS
· Team Meeting – Early December (more info to follow.)

· INDOOR practices start in December.  We will meet on Sundays at Top Prospect in Worcester.  Time is TBD.  Ridesharing is strongly encouraged – I can fit an extra four or five.

· OUTDOOR practices will start when the weather breaks and the field have been cleared for play.

· SKILLS practices will be scheduled on an as needed or requested basis.  This might include (but is not limited to) pitchers only, hitting clinic, catcher’s clinic, etc …   Stay tuned!

· OPTIONAL practices might pop up here and there with little notice.  There may be an occasion where I am going to some field to play pick up baseball and invite other kids to play and have fun!

· GAMES are scheduled for 5:30.  Players MUST be at the field NO LATER than 5pm.  Tardiness will not be tolerated.  “To be on time is to be late. To be early is to be on time. To be late is not acceptable.”

· TEAM MOVIE NIGHTS – baseball classics at Cinema 251.  Schedule to follow.

OTHER BUSINESS

Code of Conduct and Issue Resolution Policy - will be explained at the parent meeting.
Team Uniform – distributed in the spring.  Typically the league will supply a shirt, cap, belt, and socks.
Dugout Staples - Gatorade, gum, and seeds are provided by the Manager. Donations are greatly appreciated.
Player Information – you will receive a google form in the next day or so.  Please take a moment to complete it so I can get to know you better.

Lots of information will be forthcoming as I get practice schedules and game schedules.  Please feel free to call or e-mail me anytime.

ARE YOU READY!
